Twins Split Home Series With MarshalsTexarkana, TX – July 31, 2018 – The Texarkana Twins looked to sweep this series against the Marshals to clinch a playoff spot, but come up short. The Twins gave up 5 in the first and could not close the gap.
The Texas Marshals jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the top of the 1st. The Twins answered right back scoring 2 in the bottom of the 1st trying to quickly close the gap. Designated hitter, Jaylon Keys, started the Twins off with a walk and scored right away after Coltyn Kessler slugged out a double. Kessler then scored from Matt McDonald’s single. This brought the score to a 5-2 lead for the Texas Marshals.
The Marshals pushed their lead further in the top of the 4th. The Twins got two quick outs on the Marshals and due to an error, the Marshals got on and rallied with two outs giving them 3 more runs. This gave the Twins a big gap to close with the Marshals having an 8-2 lead. In the 5th inning, Cam Hill hits a single and then stole 2nd and 3rd base off of a wild pitch. Kessler then came to the box hitting a sacrifice fly to centerfield scoring Hill. This run brings us to the final score of the ball game 8-3 in favor of the Texas Marshals.
Brendan Dunkleberger ran into trouble early on, only pitching for 3 complete innings giving up 5 hits and 5 runs. Dunkleberger was throwing the ball over the plate and the Marshals connected really well. The bullpen came into the game early and broke up the Marshals momentum allowing only 3 more runs throughout the remaining innings.
The Texarkana Twins found themselves in a hole quickly and could not recover. The Twins struggled to bring runners across the plate stranding multiple base runners. Overall, the Marshals outplayed the Twins in all areas of the ball game, earning the win during tonight’s game.
The Twins will take a short break before hosting the Acadiana Cane Cutters this weekend August 3rd and 4th. These are the last two games before the playoffs begin and the Twins are in the hunt!
