Twins Add Two From the Southland ConferenceTexarkana, USA – April 17, 2018 – The Texarkana Twins are excited to announce the addition of two players from the Southland Conference. Stephen F. Austin’s Jesus Gamez and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Jesse Philp have agreed to join the Twins in their quest to bring the 2018 TCL Championship to Texarkana. Jesus Gamez is a Junior pitcher for Stephen F. Austin and has served as one of the team’s primary options out of the bullpen. Thus far, in 20 appearances, Gamez has 27 strikeouts in 22 innings pitched with a 3.18 ERA, leading the team. Hitters have not been able to figure out Gamez this season, with opponents being limited to only hitting .176 against him this season, with an even lower batting average against of .132 since Southland Conference play began. Jesse Philp is a left-handed Sophomore pitcher for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi who has been dominant in limited action this season. On the year, the Islanders’ pitcher is holding hitters to a .118 average against, while striking out over a batter an inning. While at Lufkin High School, Philp was a two-way star, compiling a 7-2 record with a 2.68 ERA while hitting .333 at the plate and being named to the All-District teams in both his Junior and Senior seasons.
